God never fails to amaze and astound me. My son LOVES video games and he's always looking for a way to get more video stuff - whether it be on our iPhones, another gaming system, games for the systems he has, the computer, whatever. To me, it seems like it's an idol and God wants no idols before Him, that is, God wants to be #1 in our lives.
So my son and I had this chat the other day about this, and about seeking the Lord and asking Him for things and whether it's okay or not. My son wanted some Skylanders and asked me to take him to Target. I declined to do so and we talked some and then I had him go spend time with the Lord. He went to his room to pray for a bit.
We then went out for errands and he asked me if we could go somewhere. He told me God answered his prayers. Oh, I forgot to say, the Skylanders were $15 each and he had birthday money as well as other monies he earned to buy 2-3. I thought that was too much and really wanted it to be between him and God on whether he got this or not.
I shared with him that I make lists of things I desire and I pray over them, asking God if it's alright to get and if so, that He would show me where, give me a great price for it and I just wait for Him to show me what to do. He always does. So I asked my son to do similarly. I told my son $7.50 would be 50% and a great price.
When we were driving, he told me that there was someone who had 30+ Skylanders and they were selling them for $3/each or make them an offer. $3/each was well more than 50% off. It was like 80% off and they were gently used. I told my son to make an offer of 8 Skylanders for $20. The person said yes and in the end, he ended up getting 10 for $25, 85% off with no tax.
They work great in his system and where he thought he would have to spend nearly $50 to get 3, he ended up getting 10 for half that price, more than triple the quantity for half the price. That just floored me that God would do this and do this so quickly for my son. Why? It's because He loves my son. He loved that this little 12-year old boy just by faith trusted Him and then in order to exercise faith, you have to have actions. My son took actions and he was prepared to walk out his faith.
He was not afraid to ask us, because when he did, he knew we would say yes. How many times do we ask God for something, but we really don't believe God will give it to us. Or, we ask with wrong motives? God never seems to be lacking in love for all of mankind, even that of a little 12-year old boy, or a mother's heart.
It is unfathomable that He could care so much that a 12-year old would want Skylanders and that he would orchestrate 2 boys in a nearby city who were willing to play a part in God's plan to meet this request. Our God is so grand.
What are you expecting from God? Check your heart to see if you have faith that He will supply, that He is your Provider. Are you stepping out in faith as if His answer was yes?
