Many years ago, I missed a family vacation with my mom and siblings when they went up to Yellowstone and Glacier and now, nearly 3 decades later, I get to go with my husband and children, whom are 14 and soon to be 11. These really are great ages to take a long road trip with them, as you don't have to carry them, and you don't need to take all the stuff that you would need when they are really young, like infants or toddlers. And they are far too big to be carried.
The drive through the middle of Glacier was the most terrifying yet exciting drive for me. Looking at our pictures, it didn't seem to bad, but remembering, I felt so nauseous, dizzy, light headed and literally scared out of my wits.
We haven't taken very many trips in 2014 and have really been working on our financial goals fervently and pretty much non-stop. It has led to burn out, but we finally said enough was enough - after some convincing from outside sources.
God rested on the 7th day, yet I worked 6-7 days a week for over 60 weeks in a row and I wonder why my performance was declining. We are now on Day 13 of our vacation and we even needed time off from the road trips as we drove over 4000 miles in that time. We are not used to that, but even so.
We saw amazing scenery and marveling at God's creation and the differences in each place. We met many nice people and a handful of rude people. We greatly appreciate the non-smoking laws in Arizona as we encountered a lot of smoking in 3 of the states we visited. And it was absolutely disgusting.
How does this relate spiritually?
- God took a rest from creating the world.
- Jesus took his rest periods after preaching to get away.
- Rest allows us to recharge and refresh.
- Helps us to reset and to re-evaluate
- Provides nourishment for our spirit, mind, and soul
- Seeing a different side of God within nature and we were absolutely in awe.
- Realizing that some of what we saw God did not do overnight, rather through time and circumstances.
Hopefully after this vacation, we can get back to work with renewed vigor and energy, putting our trust in God to move as He will and then go along with what He wants for our lives.
God is very good.
